How to try and beat the roulette odds
Best Roulette Sites
So you want to beat the odds
Theoretically you can, potentially minimise your losses if you play the odds. However, minimising means no guarantee, as Roulette is a game of pure chance, but we give you some insights and strategies that may help.
You can try and play the odds to ensure you come out on top, but in reality the house has the advantage. That’s what the zero is for.
That said, it is not without strategy and we can always try and let you in on a few roulette tips, secrets and hints as you seek the best way to play roulette online in hope for those bigger wins.
Europe is the real land of the free
Playing European Roulette, not American Roulette will give you better odds of winning in roulette. This is simply because the European wheel only has one zero, in comparison with the double zero on the American Wheels.
That gives the American Roulette slightly worse odds are there are two occasions in which you could walk away with nothing.
- House edge in American Roulette (with double zeros): 5.26%
- House edge in European Roulette (with a single zero): 2.70%
As you can see, your chances of walking out a winner in European Roulette is almost twice as high as that of it’s American counterpart.
There is no such thing as a Roulette system
Roulette betting systems don’t work. If they did, Vegas would have remained the dream of a madman.

You cannot eliminate the house advantage and the mobile casino will win in the long run. You can look at figuring out how to win in roulette online based on the odds and place your bets carefully, figuring out what number is more likely to hit, but don’t ever expect to walk out a winner every time.
Follow a system if you like, but no roulette system will make you a guaranteed winner and don’t believe anyone who says they have a fool proof one. The only true word there is ‘fool’.
Remember to have fun playing Roulette
If you could be a guaranteed winner every time, it wouldn’t be called gambling.
The thrill, the excitement, is in knowing that on the next spin of the roulette wheel you could win all… or nothing.

But at the end of the day, whether you play roulette online, land-based or on your mobile phone, the game of roulette is about entertainment. It’s a game after all, you play for fun and know that your chances of winning money are all determined by the ball landing on the numbers you’ve chosen.
Like watching a sports game or going to the theatre, you don’t expect to get your money back after the show. Same thing here. Put down the losses as entertainment costs and any wins as a fantastic bonus! It’s not a professional career, it’s a fun hobby and occupation. Treat it as so and you won’t feel any bad luck streaks quite as severely.
Create a Roulette budget
Our next tip is make sure you set yourself a budget. “XXX is how much I am going to spend at the online casino tonight.” If you win, and you can play a little longer, then great. If you lose, and can’t… well it was fun couple of hours.
Set yourself a budget, only bet what you can afford to lose
Do not, whatever you do, go over your budget. Think that the next big win could be the one. That is you add another hundred, this time, this time you will win. Chasing losses is the players worst enemy.
You’ve spent your budget, the show is over, time to go home.
Roulette is a form of entertainment based on random number generators. You wouldn’t expect to see your favourite sports team play for free, you shouldn’t expect to play Roulette for free. If you don’t win, it’s the cost of the entertainment.
And if you do win, it makes everything all the more exciting.
If you do win, cash it in
We will be the first to admit that we don’t always play by this rule. From time to time you win enough to make it interesting just to keep playing the game.
It’s best to cash it in if you have a big win.
But ultimately, if you’ve got your budget, and that’s the money you’ve decided to spend, anything on top should be a bonus. Cash it in, take it home, come back later with it and play if its only a little over your budget.
The types of bets you place along with bet selection and bet size are key here. Don’t parlay your bets. Don’t leave your previous bets and the chips you just won on the table for the next spin of the wheel. Doing so is the perfect roulette strategy for losing your money faster.
High or low variance, betting strategy
People think that if they play ‘safe bets’ (red/black, even/odd) they can beat the system. However, when playing Roulette games, you cannot influence the expected value of the game. Where you bet on a single number or a safe bet, your expected profit/loss is the same.
However the variance of the bet varies dramatically depending on which bet you choose. Variance is basically another word for ‘risk’. High risk or high variance bets, such as betting on a single number, is riskier as the odds are higher, but when you win, you win significant amounts.
Find a comfortable mix – high risk with low risk bets in order to recoup your losses. More on roulette odds here.
Low variance or safe bets, generally considered to be the outside bets, you will wins lots of the time, but your chip stack will not see a high increase or decrease.
How can you use this to your advantage? Simple. Tied closely on keeping an eye out on your budget, you can start with high variance bets, and if lady luck is sitting at a table elsewhere, switch to low variance bets, or a mix of the two, to minimise your loses.
Equally, if you are playing online in a Roulette Tournament, and time is running out and you are not getting the points you need, a high variance strategy might be the only way to try your luck at that grand prize.
But ultimately, only bet, what you are comfortable losing and have fun.
